Homes Together was created to provide another option. Our new model offers homeowners the opportunity to move into a modern, accessible home designed for independent living, while unlocking equity from their existing property and remaining connected to their community.

Why Homes Together Was Created

Across New Zealand, many older homeowners are living in homes that are larger than they need but face limited downsizing options.

The model enables residents to free up equity from their existing home while continuing to live independently in a secure and supportive community environment.

Our First Community

Homes Together's inaugural development is located at 299 Levers Road, Matua.

The community comprises ten purpose-built homes, including three one-bedroom and seven two-bedroom options, designed specifically to support independent living and ageing in place.

Construction is currently nearing completion, with residents expected to begin moving into their new homes from late October.

Backed by the Bay of Plenty Housing Equity Fund

Homes Together is an initiative of the Bay of Plenty Housing Equity Fund (BOPHEF), established to increase housing choice and support innovative housing solutions across the Bay of Plenty. The Fund's first Homes Together community in Matua reflects a commitment to creating practical housing options that help people remain independent while providing greater flexibility when considering their next move. The Homes Together model has been developed through collaboration with a number of experienced organisations who share a vision of creating high-quality, long-term housing solutions for New Zealand communities.

Homes Together is based on the Secure Homes model developed by the Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust (QLCHT). The Secure Homes model has helped New Zealanders access quality housing through an innovative approach that balances affordability, security and long-term housing stability. Homes Together builds on these principles, adapting the model to provide a downsizing solution for homeowners looking to remain independent while unlocking equity from their home.

The Matua Homes Together community has been delivered with the support of experienced development and design partners. Veros Property has provided development management services, while DGSE has led the design of the homes and community, helping create attractive, functional and accessible homes that support independent living and ageing in place.

Together, these organisations have helped create a new housing option designed specifically for people seeking to downsize while remaining active, independent and connected to their community.
